International Women’s Day 2021
Believe in Yourself
International Women’s Day 2021 celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The theme for this year is, ‘Choose To Challenge‘. A challenged world is an alert world, and from challenge comes change and opportunity.
8 Years ago I founded CICS Ltd – a now thriving commercial industrial cleaning business. It started my journey as a serial entrepreneur and an inspirational leader, motivated to spearhead positive change and the mindsets about probiotics and cleaning, eradicating the use of harmful petroleum-based chemicals.
As a female founder and industry leader, I’ve encountered many challenges on my climb, the most significant of which has been practicing and achieving self-belief. My IWD 2021 challenge to all women in business this year is as simple as it is powerful – Believe in yourself!
And Here’s Why…
To be a successful woman in business, firstly you must believe in yourself. The key to business success is self-belief and a positive mindset.
Women inherently underestimate their abilities, but to truly succeed we must shift those outdated beliefs and make way for a new and positive mindset.
This is vital for success, because no one will believe in you and your product or services if you don’t first believe in yourself. No investor will invest with you if you lack self-confidence, and your team will not perform at peak capacity because you lack the spirit to inspire them.
In fact, without self-belief, no amount of effort will yield positive results for your business.
Believing you have something valuable to offer the world is the first step in boosting your self-belief and achieving a positive mindset.
Psychology Today provides some great advice, it says
“A mindset is a belief that orients the way we handle situations – the way we sort out what is going on and what we should do. Our mindsets help us spot opportunities but they can trap us in self-defeating cycles.” They go on to say that “when our mindsets become habitual, they define who we are, and who we can be.’’
Limiting beliefs can prevent us from pursuing opportunities and having the courage to take the risks necessary to propel change and growth. But with a strong positive mindset, we can confidently tackle challenges to reach our goals. Mindset can therefore be our most valuable asset or our greatest struggle. This is crystallised in the immortal words of Marie Curie.
Life is not easy for any of us. But what of that? We must have perseverance and above all confidence in ourselves. We must believe that we are gifted for something and that this thing must be attained.” — Marie Curie
